Does Oiling Your Hair Cause Hair Fall?

Oiling your hair has been a tradition for centuries and serves several benefits. It helps prevent dryness, seals the cuticle, and promotes healing of the hair strands. Natural oils are essential for maintaining the color, shine, and luster of hair while offering protection from harmful sun exposure.

According to Rinky Kapoor, a consultant dermatologist at Esthetic Clinics, “Oiling your hair improves scalp circulation and stimulates hair follicles. While there’s no direct link between oiling and hair growth, proper oiling can protect your hair and prevent dryness.”

To reap the benefits of oiling, it’s crucial to do it correctly. Avoid rubbing the oil too harshly into the scalp and limit the application to no more than one hour. Leaving oil on for an extended period can clog pores and hinder oxygen flow to the hair, leading to damage, scalp boils, and eventual hair fall.

It’s important to note that oiling may not be suitable for those with dandruff or naturally oily scalps. Extended oil application can attract dust and particles, worsening the condition. Choose the right hair oil based on your specific hair concerns, but avoid excessive use.

What has been your experience with oiling your hair? Have you found it beneficial, or have you encountered any issues?
