My Road To Eat Chanar Payesh|| Got New Geographical Indication
Last week I completed my 50 days of tough examinations, giving long tests with theoretical exams and the final intimidating viva which examined my thesis in detail. After all, years of work had culminated in this and the stress was at an all-time high.
After a while when the exams are done and over with it, one has no other option but to ponder for a change. The preparation had given me warning and I felt like running as far away as possible from the noise of the bustling city. They wanted a place with some peace and tranquility and some side attractions Sherpur with its calm and natural environment looked just like the place.
I had another reason to visit Sherpur. Two days ago, I heard some exciting news — Sherpur’s famous Chanar Payesh had received GI (Geographical Indication) recognition! For those who don’t know, this is a prestigious acknowledgment that connects a product to its unique place of origin.
It is for over a hundred years that Chanar Payesh has its origins. Originally it was produced in Sherpur period of British rule in Bangladesh. But now there are several outlets making this delightful dessert in Ghoshpara , there are ones or two shops. Currently, there are almost 20 shops in Sherpur area that prepare this celebrated sweet daily.
