Dissociative disorder( Mind-Altering Disorder) is a type of illness in which a patient has multiple personalities within him or her. In this condition, the patient forgets their own identity, personality and characteristics and instead takes on strange or completely fake memories, personalities or characteristics for a period of time.

Persons diagnosed with this condition are unaware of where they are and who they are, that is, the connection between their consciousness and the world. This in return leads to a crisis of one’s existence or personal identity.

In these instances, people start to totally transform into a different person and their speech pattern, their way of moving around and acting is affected. This means that the individual has multiple personalities operating with in him or her. When many identities are seen in a person, then it becomes a mental illness.

There is need to increase awareness of the disorder across all the society’s stratum. Dr. Sanjida Shahria, a physician and psychotherapist, shares that personality people who went through trauma including violence and other forms of psychological abuse, are more likely to have this disorder.
